This sucks because I was really rooting for Matt Mervis to get things figured out at the big league level. He’s been tremendous in the minors but just has not been able to adjust yet and it looked like he was pressing badly during this latest stint. The Chicago Cubs today recalled infielder Miles Mastrobuoni from Triple-A Iowa and optioned infielder Matt Mervis to Iowa.
Mastrobuoni, 28, made Chicago’s Opening Day roster for the second-straight year and appeared in eight games for Chicago, going 0-for-12 with an RBI and two runs scored prior to being optioned to the I-Cubs April 18.
